District Biomass System – Devon
Court House has been beautifully restored over the years with the addition of 3 cottages within the estate which let to tenants.
The main house which is separated into 2 parts, an annexe and the 3 rental cottages were all heated with individual oil heaters which were old, unreliable and very costly to run. Our client was looking to replace the heating system with something more economical, environmentally friendly and easy to maintain.
After contacting Futurum a meeting was set up to discus our clients’ requirements and carry out a full site survey. Futurum suggested a 130kW ETA HACK biomass boiler and district heating system due to its high quality. The ETA HACK operates with high efficiency and low emissions throughout the season irrespective of the wood used and whether it is still green or already dry. The ETA HACK is easy to use and provides automatic and complete ash removal. ETA boilers are also highly reliable and are designed not to clog when feeding in wood chips. The boiler is also quiet, takes chips and uses very little energy to operate.
The ETA HACK is fitted with the ETA touch control system which features a touchscreen to enable simple operation and can be transferred to the internet via a LAN output. The boiler can therefore be controlled by conventional means of internet access such as PC, Smartphone or Smart TV. An optional GSM modem also allows the boiler to issue fault messages via SMS ext.
The system also has the capacity to feed a further building and a heat main has been placed into a 7th building and capped for future use.
During the course of the installation, disruption to the client and tenants was kept to a minimum and we worked closely with them to ensure that the system met their needs and that they are able to operate the system easily with minimum input. During the commissioning report our client was instructed how to use the ETA HACK system and our tam ensured that they were able to operate the boiler safely.
The boiler and hopper with auto-feed were installed into an existing garage which has easy access for pellet deliveries.
The new system has helped our client move away from their old and costly oil heaters. They will make savings on fuel and be able to demonstrate their clean credentials to the future tenants.
The system specified will generate approximately £23,000 per annum based on running at peak load for 20% of the year meaning the system should pay for itself in less than 5 years when also taking into consideration the cost saving in fuel supply.
The installation will be eligible for the Commercial Renewable Heat Incentive (DRHI) payments index linked for the next 20 years.
